Eva Amurri Martino To Star In Series “Growing Ivy”

Susan Sarandon and Eva Amurri Martino are bringing their mother-daughter relationship to the small screen.

In a competitive situation, NBC has nabbed Growing Ivy, a comedy based on an original idea by Martino and starring the duo, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The comedy, which landed at the network with a pilot production commitment, revolves around Type A+ Ivy Davis (Martino), who craves the stability she lacked in her childhood, and as a result, has thrown herself into her career at the expense of her personal life. In an attempt to restore balance and potentially find love, she invites her freewheeling, eccentric mom Franckie (Sarandon) to move in with her and work on their relationship.

Martino will pen the script alongside Will McCormack, who with writing-producing partner Rashida Jones, will executive produce the comedy via their Warner Bros. Television-based Le Train Train banner. Sarandon and Martino will also serve as co-exec producers. Jeff Grosvenor is on board to produce.

Growing Ivy marks the third time Sarandon and Martino will play mother-daughter onscreen. The duo will co-star in the upcoming indie drama Mother’s Day and previously teamed for 2002′s The Banger Sisters. In addition, Martino played a younger version of her mother in 1995′s Dead Man Walking. Martino (Californication, New Girl and The Mindy Project) is repped by Paradigm, Underground’s Chris Dennis and attorney Abel Lezcano.

Sarandon, meanwhile, recently booked a guest turn on WBTV’s CBS comedy Mike & Molly and had a multiple-episode arc on the third season of Showtime’s The Big C. Repped by ICM Partners and attorney Jon Moonves, she won an Oscar for Dead Man Walking and is a four-time Emmy nominee for You Don’t Know Jack, Bernard and Doris, Malcolm in the Middle and Friends.

Growing Ivy comes as other big-screen actresses have continued to head to TV this season. CBS nabbed Halle Berry to star in its upcoming Steven Spielberg drama Extant, while Meg Ryan signed on to topline and produce a single-mother comedy for NBC.

For Jones and McCormack, meanwhile, this marks the duo’s latest sale in the first year of their overall deal with WBTV. The Celeste & Jesse Forever pair are prepping The Revengers for The CW; comedy Stuck for Fox; and half-hour A to Z with NBC. The Sarandon-Martino comedy also marks the second comedy that will team Jones with other daughters of Hollywood royalty. The daughter of Quincy Jones is also prepping ABC’s Girls Without Boys, which hails from John Goldwyn’s daughter, Emily Goldwyn, and Spielberg’s daughter, Sasha Spielberg.

Parks and Rec star Jones will exit the NBC comedy following the first 13 episodes of its sixth season. Jones is repped by UTA and Schreck Rose. McCormack is with UTA and Loeb & Loeb.

Eva Amurri Martino Returning To “New Girl”

Great news! Eva Amurri Martino will be coming back to the hit show “New Girl” in the second episode of season 3!

Angela Kinsey and Eva Amurri will be stirring up trouble on New Girl this year!

The Office alum and the Californication actress will both pop up in the second episode of Season 3 to spar with Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Schmidt (Max Greenfield), TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.

Meanwhile, Amurri will reprise her role as Schmidt’s competitive co-worker Beth, who will cause trouble in his love life. Don’t worry, they’re not turning this into a love quadrangle. The third season will pick up moments after Schmidt ran away from both Cece (Hannah Simone) and Elizabeth (Merritt Wever), who will be back for an arc this season. But don’t assume that just because Elizabeth is only sticking around for a few episodes, Schmidt ultimately picks Cece.

“It’s a little more complicated than that,” Meriwether says. “It’s a choice that he’s still struggling with in the premiere. He genuinely cares about both women and he’s just so confused about what to do. He’s forced to take desperate measures to figure it out. He potentially does some things that are not good.” We hear those things may include juggling both women, which Beth schemes to expose when she pops back up.

New Girl returns Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 9/8c on Fox.

The Hill Interview
Posted by Jennifer on April 18, 2013 • Leave a message? / No Comments

Eva Amurri Martino’s  film credits include the Gotham-based love story, “New York, I Love You,” indie dramedy “Middle of Nowhere,” “The Education of Charlie Banks,” “That’s My Boy,” “SAVED!” and “The Banger Sisters,” for which she won the Young  Artist Award for Best Performance in a Feature Film – Supporting Young Actress.

On the television front, Eva is best known for her work on Showtime’s “Californication.”

ROBIN BRONK: If you had five minutes in the Oval Office with President Obama, what would you discuss with him?  What issue would you like him to know about?

EVA AMURRI MARTINO: First, I would hug him and burst into tears. This would probably take at least five minutes so I would need to beg him for another five minutes. After composing myself, I would discuss education reform with him. The state of our nation’s public school system happens to be one of the issues I am most passionate about, and I would love to hear his opinion on what it would take to make sure each American child has access to an adequate education in the near future.

RB: If you could ask the president one question, what would that be?

EAM:  I would ask: knowing all that you know about our nation, classified or otherwise, what would you say makes you most hopeful about the future of the United States of America and its people? What does our future look like through your eyes?

RB: What piece of advice would you give President Obama?

EAM: You’re not trying to get reelected, do what you know is right!

RB: If you were going to send the president to one of your favorite places in the United States for one day, where would that be?  Why?

EAM:  I would ask him to bring FLOTUS along and come over to our backyard in Los Angeles for a beer and a home cooked meal. I can’t even imagine how much stress being the First Couple puts on a marriage, and they seem to take it all in stride. I would love to hear their pearls of wisdom and let them unwind in the California sunshine.

RB: What CD would you recommend that the president add to his music collection?

EAM:  I am absolutely positive that the president doesn’t need any music recommendations from me. That said, I would probably slip him a CD of my little brother’s band.  Who knows, they could get a gig at the White House!

RB: Would you ever consider a political career?

EAM: Definitely not — I’m terrible at smiling for extended periods of time. But I’m great at taking pictures with babies!
